I don't commonly read fanfiction, but this novel length one was highly recommended by Lao (who does gorgeous and hilarious merthur fanart - check her out on instagram: @lao_pendragon). If, like me, the series finale (and really, the entire concluding season) of BBC Merlin admittedly ripped your eye out and destroyed you, or even frustrated you to the point of disappointment, this story past katheryne, along with all of the beautiful fanart for the chapters by lao and maryluis, will heal your soul. ...more I loved this story! I experience like one should scout the tv testify Merlin before embarking on this magical adventure. Information technology picks upwards right later the series ended with Merlin in his old form as Emrys in modern day waiting for Arthur. Arthur is soon resurrected and he has his full memories of Camelot, which is heartbreaking. Arthur'due south memories are like a fresh wound while Merlin'due south memories are similar a wearisome pain pulling him to a night identify. The reader feels this likewise not only through Arthur and Merlin simply as w I loved this story! I feel like one should watch the goggle box show Merlin before embarking on this magical adventure. It picks up right subsequently the series ended with Merlin in his erstwhile course as Emrys in modern day waiting for Arthur. Arthur is presently resurrected and he has his full memories of Camelot, which is heartbreaking. Arthur's memories are like a fresh wound while Merlin's memories are like a dull hurting pulling him to a dark place. The reader feels this too not only through Arthur and Merlin only every bit nosotros read near the characters we know from Camelot in flashback form, knowing that they won't popular up for an risk with Merlin and Arthur in this timeline.
At that place are new characters though and new adventures and in that location is much merthur!
Merlin past the time Arthur is resurrected is fully aware of his feelings for Arthur merely we see Arthur realize he is in love Merlin and was during his time in Camelot. Ane matter I loved so much in this story was all the magic. The idiot box serial portrayed Arthur and Merlin as 2 halves of a whole yet a huge part of Merlin remained a secret from Arthur until the last moments of his life. Here we become to see Arthur not only realize his dear for Merlin, his friend but fall in love with Merlin the magician. The descriptions of how Arthur saw Merlin's magic were absolutely breathtaking. This story will definitely become a reread for me as I revisit favorite episodes from the boob tube series.

...more than Fits well with the Merlin Television show canon. I could believe it as a continuation of the characters' lives, and of the concluding scene from the series. The new characters which were introduced were interesting and compelling. The dialogue between the main characters matched upwardly well enough with their dialogue in the serial that I was able to believe that they were the selfsame characters, and I could believe the development of their human relationship and their characters. The story was structured and paced well, and the writing style was pleasant. The main challenges posed to the characters were gear up and work well, and are resolved believably. The callbacks/flashbacks to the main serial past are well placed to maintain familiarity, while avoiding being gratuitous - you tin can believe that they would think of those memories at those times.
My only real criticisms would be the overuse of scones - England does have other pastries, and also speaking equally an Englishwoman I have never had, nor take I ever heard of anyone else, having a scone for breakfast! It was one of the pocket-size grievances and took me out of the story sometimes as I was left noting multiple times that the writer was probably American.
Equally Merlin fanfics go, I would happily recommend it to Merlin fans left wanting by the finish of serial 5 and who are also a bit annoyed that they exit Merthur as unsubtle subtext.***somewhat spoilers***
I also didn't enjoy the many sexual practice scenes in the second one-half. Information technology is a fanfic marked mature, so I did look that there would be some scenes, and I think they were reasonably well-earned scenes, merely I just wasn't particularly interested in reading that much *particular*.
...more Okay, did I just read a 39 chapter fanfic that was incredibly well planned out, funny and fucking beautiful? Yes. Aye I did.Did I enjoy the characters, the world building and the clever references to canon? Yeah. Yes I did.
I initially wanted something light and fun to get out of all my serious reading funk - but I unintentionally dived into something that was then poetically written but oh so romantic, tragic, gorgeous and hilarious - that ALL of my feels just crumpled and became an emotional mess

If you're a fan of the Merlin Television set serial and you can't shake that ending, THIS is the answer. THIS is the season 6 we deserved, the ending that was meant to happen and I'one thousand and then happy that I came across THIS glorious piece of writing! Recommend, recommend, recommend!
...more A fine depiction of Arthur's adjustment to the modern earth, and the ways Merlin has and has not changed over the many mortal lifetimes he has lived. Arthur is nonetheless arrogantly spoiled in some respects, and Merlin is happy with having him back, alive and himself, despite his complaints.
The unique twists re. the magic they ate dealing with in Avalon, including Merlin's fears of his own great power, are excellent and sometimes surprising.

Only there is at least as much canon-typical teasing and insults as serious and/or exciting moments (even after Arthur gets a clue that there might be even more than devoted friendship available between them), and fun interactions with several wonderful OCs, too, who knew elderly "Emrys" for years earlier the story starts. (He returns to his young state in one case Arthur returns, which is most of this long tale.)
Oh, and information technology's well-edited; no asterisk necessary. ...more than
"And like the cycle of the yr" is ane of my go-to fan fictions for a Merlin fan, and it never fails to disappoint. I originally found this work through a Tumblr mail, recommending it for readers new to Merlin fiction, and cruel in love with it that calendar week. Each section is written brilliantly, from Merlin's grief and dances with insanity, and Arthur's processing of the globe and all that has been left backside. ...more v stars…I loooved Merlin as a child, and was too young to ship them at the time only tiktok has since convinced me tot he point that I feel like it was 100% canon. Anyways this was nice and I loved the time travel aspect and the conflict was skillful. Very overnice slow burn and I liked it had both perspectives.
two/five on spice. i/v on kink. 5/5 on tears.
Afterward watching the testify, I needed set it fic. This fits right in with catechism. I loved this story. It made me weep and giggle. Beautifully written.
I cried, and I laughed, and I cried again and laughed a trivial more than. This is a beautiful story that deserves to be regarded equally a romance novel, because it is one.
Admittedly incredible I fell in dear it broke me
2.5⭐️
This was really skillful but long and I kinda got bored by then end. I'm too not a smut fan lol it merely makes me uncomfy. Characters are as wonderful as they ever were and I love all of the author'southward OCs. Gonna try the sequel and meet how it goes
Update: decided that I'm actually not interested in the sequel and I like to imagine their lives afterward the ending of this fic on my own
